AMERICA

|
| On
22.8.1851, the yacht America outsailed the
whole British fleet in a race around the
Isle of Wight. The nearest British yacht
to her, Aurora, finished 8 minutes after
the America. The 100 Guinea Cup she won
was renamed in her honour "The America
Cup". |

SHAMROCK
III & RELIANCE |
|
In
1903 Shamrock III was to be Sir Thomas Lipton's
3rd challenge for the Cup in 5 years. She
was an unworthy antagonist for Reliance,
the defender, which was the most impressive
of all yachts ever to sail in the America's
Cup Races.
