| Britannia
raced Vigilant in the summer of 1894, the
racing was spectacular. The boats being
well matched, Britannia the Kings yacht
winning overall. Alberta is making for Southampton. |

- A Dutch trader in Gorey Harbour, with
a cutter and other vessels. The medieval
Mount Orgueil Castle is strategically positioned
overlooking Gorey and its harbour. It was
built in the 13th century to protect Jersey
from French raiders and for centuries was
the political and military headquarters
of the English Crown in Jersey.

the Guernsey station. Various squadrons
of British warships were deployed to the
Islands in the French revolutionary and
Napoleonic wars. Castle Cornet can be seen
to the left and on the right is the south
end of St. Peter Port. |
