BRITANNIA AND SATANITA

1893 - The summer of 1893 saw these large class yachts having a spectacular season together. This race took place at Torbay and was hosted by the Royal Torbay Yacht Club. Their mark boat is on the right.

GHOSTING ON THE CHESAPEAKE

A schooner ghosts down the Chesapeake River. A vessel appears to be "ghosting" when she is making way through the water with no apparent assistance from the wind, the surface of the water being calm.

LUTINE

Lutine was the magnificent yawl owned by Lloyds of London, she is shown reaching down the English channel.

SQUALLY DAY IN THE SOLENT

The schooner yacht America sailed to England in 1851 and defeated the entire British fleet in a race for the Kings Cup, which eventually became known as the America's Cup.

TICONDEROGA

1993 - The beautiful Herreshoff designed ketch Ticonderoga is ahead of her rivals, Altair, Sumuran and Royono in this friendly race off Rhode Island. She has recently been totally renovated to a very high standard.

WESTWARD

Westward raced with the J's in the 1930's, she was a Herreshoff schooner and made a breathtaking sight at the summer regatta's all around England.
